SEVEN PUBLIC ART PROJECTS

Six Future Metrorail Stations in Fairfax County and Loudoun County, Virginia  

A Future Metro Transit Police Substation and Training Facility in Fairfax County, Virginia

The Metro Art in Transit Program works with communities surrounding Metro transit facilities to integrate artwork that promotes transit use, enhances travel by Metro, and highlights the cultural vitality of the National Capital region. 

Art in Transit is seeking artists, with public art experience, to create site-specific artwork for six future Silver Line Metrorail stations and to create a light-integrated work of art for the future Metro Transit Police District II Substation and Training Facility.  The maximum budget for each Silver Line station is $250,000.  The maximum budget for the Substation and Training Facility is $100,000. 

A panel of art and design professionals and community representatives will review portfolio submissions, select three finalists to develop a site-specific proposal for each location.  The panel will reconvene to review finalist proposals and select one proposal for each of the seven sites. 

This Call to Artists is open to all artists with site-specific public art experience, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or age. Finalists will be announced no later than February 25, 2013.

Qualified artists must submit the following materials to be considered:  1) 10 high-resolution (with a minimum of 300 dpi) jpeg/PDF images of previous public art projects on a compact disk (CD); 2) a one-page list of the images contained on the CD, specifying the title, media, location and year created for each work of art and; 3) a resume and/or artist bio.  Materials will not be returned. Do not send duplicate materials, as the panel will consider your submission for all seven projects, unless requested by the applicant.  Mailed materials must be postmarked by February 15, 2013. Couriered materials must be received by Metro by February 13, 2013.
