artRESTON 2007

The League of Reston Artists (LRA) presents artRESTON 2007
The LRA’s 14th Annual Juried Exhibition.

The League of Reston Artists (LRA) presents artRESTON 2007, its prestigious 14th Annual Juried.

“artRESTON is designed to celebrate the importance of the visual arts in Reston. For more than 36 years the LRA has helped to elevate the profile of local artists in our culturally diverse community. The purpose of the LRA’s Annual Juried Exhibition is to expose the Reston community to the contemporary art being created by talented artists from the metro Washington, D.C. region by exhibiting their work through a juried show presided over by a leading figure from regional art community. This year the LRA is honored to have Paula Wachsstock of the Art League School serve as juror for artRESTON, the LRA’s 14th Annual Juried Exhibition.” – Mary Bronson, LRA Board President.

artRESTON 2007 features $1,500 in cash awards, including the prestigious $500 Jo Ann Rose Award.

ABOUT THE JUROR: Paula Wachsstock

Paula Wachsstock teaches painting at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia.

“I paint because I love to... I am in my own world when I paint. The excitement has never worn off. I take something that is true in life and recreate that truth through color, surface texture, and mark making. My subject might be an aerial view, people walking in the rain, the holocaust, or a dog named Rex. What becomes important to me is the process and ultimately for the viewer to experience that process. In telling my story I want the viewer to recognize something familiar and experienced something new.

The beauty of oil paint is to sculpt the paint on my surface. Forming and manipulating brilliant colors across the surface, scraping and building layers. My vocabulary in telling my story is color, line and texture.” – Paula Wachsstock
