Galileo and the Church: Old Myths, Historical Realities, and Modern Relevance | Lecture

Lawrence M. Principe, the Drew Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of History of Science and Technology, will explore the extraordinary misconceptions and myths that have sprung up around Galileo and his relationship to the Church, as well as the dramatic impact of Galileo's work on the Church of the past and the modern-day Catholic Church.

The Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy exhibit at The Franklin Institute will remain open on Tuesday evening from 5-7pm with a discounted ticket offering for those attending that evening’s lecture.
