Galleries: Pinder and Ruiz, ‘El Museo del Ghetto'; Nekisha Durrett, ‘Colossus' - washingtonpost.com: "Colossal Transformations at Hillyer and G"

Working in the visual equivalent of surround sound, District artist Nekisha Durrett transforms Hillyer Art Space's main gallery into an epic landscape. In a delightfully mixed visual metaphor, Disney-ish bears live alongside a capricious monster who could have been plucked off a Kabuki stage. Chilling and enchanting at the same time, Durrett's work mimics the look of graphic novels and children's books even as it turns decidedly circumspect.
