“Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition,” is hosted by the Smithsonian National Portrait Galley.
Submissions are available online from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, and the finalist’s exhibition is scheduled for 2013.
The jurors are Martin E. Sullivan, director, National Portrait Gallery; Brandon Brame Fortune, curator, Department of Painting and Sculpture, National Portrait Gallery; Peter Frank, writer, curator and critic, Los Angeles; Hung Liu, artist and professor, Mills College, Oakland, Calif.; Richard J. Powell, Professor of Art and Art History and John Spencer Bassett professor of African and African American Studies, Duke University, Durham, N.C.; Alec Soth, artist, Minneapolis.
The competition invites submissions of portraits in
all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, prints, photography,
electronic and digital media. All finalist works will be shown in a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery March 22, 2013, through Jan. 4, 2014.
