DAVID KANE: INTRODUCTION (2008-2010)

DAVID KANE: INTRODUCTION (2008-2010)
September 3-30, 2010.

Cre8 Space and Marquis Perkins are pleased to present an exhibition of works by David Kane, opening Friday, September 3, 2010 at 7:00pm. Whether through oil, acrylic or spray paint, the artist presents portraiture in a manner usually captured through the lens of a skilled photographer.

In Introduction, a series of portraits by David Kane, the viewer comes face to face with the works of a virtually unknown artist. An IT professional by day, Kane’s work for years has been largely a treat only shared by Kane’s closest friends. Commanding the skills of a master painter, David for one of the first times brings his works out of his home and allows the public to share in his unique view of his subjects. Kane’s use of light and composition bring to mind the works of archaeological photojournalists -capturing an almost voyeuristic view of a world undiscovered. He incorporates oils, acrylics and spray paint onto his wood pieces (as well as canvas), bringing a texture that allows his subjects to project off of the surface.

David Kane was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to DC to attend Howard University in 1992. Growing up sketching, drawing comic books and posters, Kane eventually found his love for painting 15 years ago.

Sponsored in part by Jacob’s Creek.
