Art Peek-Show Pops Up on U Street Corridor

The Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery announces the launch of its 2011 window-installation series, IN-FLUX window peek-show. Kicking off the IN-FLUX series this year, John M. Adams presents his site-specific drawing, Efflux.

Adams' work straddles the domains of performance and installation art; his drawings are designed and created specific for their space, and immediately destroyed at the close of the exhibition. The feathery line-quality of his graphite drawings evoke plumes of smoke, equally transitory and in keeping with the larger work's momentary existence.

Alongside the installation's gestural work, a TV monitor loops footage of Adams creating the piece itself. Then, on Monday, February 14th at 6pm Adams will destroy the piece on site. Thus, together Efflux's components offer a metaphor for evolution - moving the viewer through creation, existence, and eventually destruction.

Don't miss your chance to see his elegant and fleeting work transform the gallery space, now on display thru February 13th, with a final performance of the work's destruction on Monday, February 14th at 6pm.
