Civilian Art Projects presents photographic selections from Gesche Würfel's multi-year project Go for the Gold! The solo exhibition is a first for the artist in Washington, DC.
Go for the Gold! depicts the transformation of London's landscape in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games. A trained urban planner, Würfel began the project in 2006 as an investigation into globalization and how it disrupts relationships between residents and their natural and built environment.

The DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative ensures that underserved DC public school students benefit from the region’s rich array of arts amenities. Every dollar donated at the ART BUZZ Trunk Show ensures access to the arts for thousands of students each year. In addition the Collaborative provides teachers with professional development sessions and study materials, adding further incentive to integrate the arts into their daily lessons. In the 2009 school year, more than 32,000 students and teachers visited cultural institutions through their programs.

The Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards
The Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards is now accepting applications for the 2010 awards and exhibition. The 8th annual juried art competition awards $14,000 in prize monies to four selected artists. Deadline for submissions is April 9, 2010 and up to twelve artists will be invited to display their work during the month of September in downtown Bethesda.
The 2010 Trawick Prize will be juried by Harry Cooper, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; Robert Haywood, Deputy Director at the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore, MD; and Emily Smith, Curatorial Fellow in Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA.
The first place winner will be awarded $10,000; second place will be honored with $2,000 and third place will be awarded $1,000. A “young” artist whose birth date is after April 9, 1980 may also be awarded $1,000.
Artists must be 18 years of age or older and residents of Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. Original painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber art, digital, mixed media and video are accepted. Each artist must submit five slides or five images on CD, application and a non-refundable entry fee of $25.

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District is requesting drawn design entries for creative and unique bicycle racks. The racks will be installed within the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District in Washington, DC.
The call is open to the entire art community including visual artists, architects, graphic designers, urban designers and bicycling enthusiasts.
The winning entries will receive a $1500 honorarium plus a complimentary Saturday night stay for two at the historic Hay Adams Hotel, 800 16th St NW, in the Golden Triangle.

International Arts and Artists' Hillyer Art Space is currently accepting submittals for its Juried Member's Show Constructing Differences, Uncovering Connections, to be curated by Maria Barbosa*, until February 12, 2010 (not a postmark deadline) for the week-long show from February 22nd to February 27th. There will be a closing reception on Saturday, February 27th!
*Maria Barbosa is a mixed media artist interested in the riddles of personal interactions. Her work explores the processes of acculturation, globalization and displacement. Through her work, she addresses the conflict between the need for individuality and the need to conform to an established social order.
Requirements:
o Artists must be members of International Arts & Artists.
o Submissions may address, but are not limited to, any of the following topics:
o The common humanity and the uniqueness of individual artwork
o Globalization and joined destinies
o The global space and national places
o International vs. Transnational
o The paradox between globalization and rigid borders
o All media will be considered.
o All work must be less than $500.00.
o $20 submission fee.
Submissions must include the following materials:
o An email to membership at artsandartists.org containing TWO digital images per submission as a high resolution 300 dpi JPEG no larger than 1 MB (do not use GIFs, TIFFs or other formats). Any additional images (over the limit of 2), or any images that do not conform to the guidelines outlined will not be accepted. You may also submit less than 2 images.
o File Labeling - Files must be titled with a number indicating the viewing order, followed by the artist's last name. The numbers must correspond to the accompanying Image List. The Remba family has been involved in the art business for three generations. Luis Remba learned the basic printing techniques from his father who owned a commercial printing firm in Mexico City. These skills eventually evolved into the Mixografia® Workshop and gallery where fine art handmade paper prints and sculptures have been produced and published for over 30 years.

Managing Editor of Art in America Richard Vine will examine the exponential growth of contemporary art in China and its cultural impact during the Contemporary Museum’s New Art Dialogue Series lecture New China/New Art.
Vine will share experiences from his many trips to China and his close examination of the country’s rapidly evolving contemporary art scene. This new era of Asian contemporary art will be illustrated by Vine’s firsthand accounts with installations, exhibitions, and encounters with emerging artists. He will also review movements that have shaped contemporary art in post-Tiananmen China.
Admission to the lecture is $10 for the general public, $5 for students, and free for members of the Contemporary Museum and Walters Art Museum. Tickets will be available at the door.
The Contemporary’s New Art Dialogue Series presents lectures and conversations by distinguished artists, critics, art historians, and curators whose work is defining the field of contemporary art. The series cultivates critical discourse responsive to the cultural, social, and political issues of our time.
