The 5th L is a Baltimore-based, nationally traveled, spoken-word, poetry-meets-hip-hopsoul group made up of David Ross/Native Son and Femi Lawal/The Dri Fish. They deliver an action-packed experience with the skilled theatrics of a Broadway show and the high energy of rap,yet with the poetic integrity of Langston Hughes to entertain and enlighten audiences.

I am Tasha Jones.com is the virtual introduction to the author, educator, poet, artist, star! She is currently teaching an advanced writing course entitled The Write Me Project through Indiana University for AIM (a juvenile re-entry program), for young adults who are looking for an alternative. Tasha Jones is definitely "the One" to watch and hear!

Jonathan Brody Tucker was born in Washington, DC's, Southeast Women's Hospital about a decade before the internet was born. It is still too early to tell which will have a greater impact on society. Growing up in Crofton, Maryland, Jonathan began writing the terribly clichéd, sing-songy filth he calls poetry to express how he felt about the cute girls in school. Due to his extreme cowardice, he did not read his poetry in public until many years later. Some people like it, but they are a strange and varied bunch. At the University of Maryland, College Park, he founded Terpoets so he could share his whining diatribes, political propaganda, and emotional drivel with a larger community of like-minded weirdos.

New Orleans bred hip hop artist, spoken word poet, host, screenwriter and high school teacher Drew Anderson, aka "Droopy the Broke Baller," utilizes his talent in innovative ways to connect with audiences big and small via the avenues of art and education. A fixture in the D.C. spoken word scene for more than 10 years strong and two-time DC/Baltimore National Slam Team member, Anderson has a writing resume that includes two solo publications and numerous collaborative projects. He is a co-founder of the award-winning Straight, No Chaser Productions film company, dedicated to giving voice to underexposed characters and lending reality to unconventional worlds.

As a performance artist and host of the ever-popular "Spit Dat" set at Mocha Hut, Anderson is known lovingly as "The Black Weird Al Yankovich" for his laugh-laden parodies of the music world's catchiest contributions. We are fortunate to have him as our feature this month, as he was contemplating running for president but decided instead to "give his boy Barack a shot."

International Arts Artists invites you to come HOME this Friday, August 15th!
Welcome new host Fred Joiner, curator and host of the American Poetry Museum's Intersections at the Honfleur Gallery and poet in residence at Busboys and Poets, Shirlington. This month's feature poet is Christopher K.P. Brown, fresh off of his summer tour for the fourth installment in the HOME series.

Brown's most recent work explores the topic of Black male identity, which is the dominant theme of his latest release, POETRY: a hip hop album.
