City Arts will hold a public mural dedication ceremony for its newly completed H Street, NE Mural on Saturday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m.  The dedication will take place at the site of the mural at 1010 H Street, NE.  It will be followed by a meet-and-greet with the artists at SOVA, 1359 H Street, NE, with 20% of all food and drink purchases supporting City Arts.

The week of November 15-22, 2008 will mark the launch of FotoWeek DC, the first annual gathering of a diverse and wide-ranging photography community in the nation's capital, including photographers, museums, universities and all those involved in the profession across the metro D.C. area.

The Warehouse Gallery will host the photographs of famed muralist Byron Peck. Come see his work in a different medium.

And then travel the city to check out the PIX/TOUR, curated by Molly Ruppert. The Pix/Tour project of FotoWeekDC is showing the work of area photographers at 50 bars, clubs, restaurants, theaters, and shops around DC.
Pix/Tour brings art to the people who are out and about. See the art of photography in Dupont, Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, 14th Street.

The Lamond Recreation Center is the first LEED® Silver Certified building in the District and features a host of after school programs and activities for students from surrounding schools.

In partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) announces the installation of a mosaic mural by DC public artist G. Byron Peck, City Arts, LLC. Located at the intersection of Kansas Avenue and Tuckerman Street, NE, Washington, DC, Lamond is designed to revitalize and enhance the mind, body and spirit of the users and the surrounding urban community. It is also designed to provide the neighborhood with an environmentally efficient recreation facility, the first LEED Silver Certified facility built by DPR.

Utilizing sustainable and recycled materials, the 12 by 16 foot mosaic mural enhances the facility’s unique characteristics and highlight activities within the community. It contains references to native plant life, sports and multigenerational relationships that are reflected within the community.

G. Byron Peck, City Arts LLC, has created more than 20 high-profile public murals, mosaics, and other artworks, mostly located in Washington, DC. In April, Peck received First Prize for Creative Use of Mosaic in Commercial Project at the International Spectrum Awards in Miami. The project, funded by the DCCAH, involved four 300-foot long mosaic sections spanning the walls of the 12th Street Tunnel where it joins Maine Avenue, SW, also known as the Southwest Gateway.

The Lamond Recreation Center mosaic mural is made possible through the generous funding from the Department of Parks and Recreation and commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Bike Tour of the South West Gateway Art Installation

DC mural and mosaic artist G. Byron Peck leads a bicycle tour of the recently installed 1,200 foot-long mosaic artwork decorating the South West Gateway. Peddle along many of the waterfront sites that inspired the mosaic’s imagery, then travel down Maine Avenue to view a second mural located near the Corcoran School of Art. Student apprentices with City Arts, a non-profit that mentors underserved youth to create public art, contributed to both works. Presented by City Arts.

Company's mosaics will fill DC tunnels with murals by G. Byron Peck

...community member requested the tunnel be brightened with artwork, said Tony Gittens, executive director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Muralist G. Byron Peck designed the art for The Southwest Gateway. The tunnel, near the Potomac River waterfront, connects to the northwest quadrant of the city. The art will cover both sides of two tunnels – one northbound and one southbound – and each is about 11 feet high and more than 300 feet long. G. Byron Peck's design shows a combination of abstract images representing the riverfront, Peck said, such as dogwood, herons, willow trees and fish. These larger abstractions are separated with serpentine stretches of color so drivers and walkers can view them in succession.

"Public Artists" Exhibition

opens "Public Artists,"an exhibition examining the
ideas behind some of the recent public commissions
undertaken by such contemporary local artists as
sulptor Wendy M. Ross and muralist G. Byron Peck.
The opening reception will be preceded by "Why
Public Art?," a panel discussion and slide lecture
from 4:00-6:00 featuring the six artists, examples
of whose work will remain on view through March 23.
