Hosted by The Press Club, Green Chalk’s latest exhibition poses the question, “Now What?" Artists Peter Charles, Roberto Bocci, Jamie Dagdigian, Susan Hyde Greene, Richard James, Logan Norton, Rhossio Munoz, the Temple Sisters address issues of immediate relevance to a chaotic time in America. This exhibit is at The Press Club, and the show opens on May 25 from 5:00- 8:00 pm with a panel discussion. Ms. Enns, director of Green Chalk Contemporary, observes “By asking the question of Now what, we are not only asking Now what happened but also Now what do we do? Now what can we imagine? Now what do we want our world to be? What?” Themes addressed by artists in the exhibition include the public, private and personal reactions to the new administrations few months, including effects of and on the media, the status of gender, immigration and the environment. Robert Bocci is a fervent believer in the importance of social justice, women’s rights, science, education for everybody and culture. Starting on January 21, he has documented march protests on the streets of Washington DC and most recently, the People’s Climate Change March. He mixes and marches along with the crowds shooting mid-range to close ups of people and signs. The resulting slide show for this exhibition can be considered a travelogue photography essay seeking to recreate the tension and feeling of being enveloped by the protestors and their antiestablishment slogan chants. Peter Charles, known for his elegant and minimal approach to art, distills complex sensations and relationships as he alters, distorts or abstracts an idea to emphasize its essential character. About TWISTED COLUMN, he states, “The twisted column might symbolize a distorted and contorted Washington Monument...A comment on lies and distortions of truth and fact.” Charles recently relocated to San Luis Obispo, CA from Washington, DC. Susan Hyde Greene contributes TEARS FOR A TROUBLED WORLD, a stitched image that addresses the fragile lives of children. She says, “There are so many terrifying issues that have been thrown into uncertainty; the environment, educational opportunities, race, gender identity and the very real threat of nuclear war.” The opening reception happens from 5pm-8pm, with a panel discussion, including audience questions, from 6:30-7:30pm. Meet the Artists - Art of Legacy Exhibition Set to Debut at Iconic Old Georgetown Theater

Closed Monday Productions LLC presents the Art of Legacy exhibition at the newly renovated Old Georgetown Theater, a former silent movie house from the 1900s. The exhibition features Washington DC area artists, John Blee, Barbara Januszkiewicz, Anne Marchand, Martha Spak and photographers Marissa White and Matt Leedham. Recently added to the exhibition, sculptor Raymond Kaskey and his famous sculpture Portlandia.

The Pop up exhibition will be on view from March 9-26, 2017. A reception “meet the artist” will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017, from 5-7 pm at the newly renovated space located at 1351 Wisconsin Avenue NW in Washington DC, Georgetown. All artists will be available to meet and discuss their artwork.

“The Art of Legacy exhibition has successfully enhanced this exquisite newly renovated space featuring natural light and views of the unique outside garden. Curating the current show has reminded me of the importance of art in the community and why it matters.” says Marsha Ralls, “It’s a perfect meeting of historic DC with artists whose work reflects the very nature of the city.” Ralls, the curator and CEO of Closed Monday Productions, worked closely with architect Robert Bell to create a showcase for some of her favorite artists.

Closed Monday Productions LLC was established in 2014 as a private art dealership. CEO Marsha Ralls was the former owner of the Ralls Collection Inc. an art advisory group that expanded in 1991 with the opening of a gallery bearing the same name. The gallery specialized in contemporary painting, photography, prints, and sculpture.

Green Chalk Contemporary is pleased to present Awakening – a collection of works by artists reacting to a new era in Washington. The show opens with a public reception and benefit for The Kinship Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Central Coast neglected and traumatized children through foster care, adoption, relative caregiving and mental health services, on February 10, 2017, 3rd Floor, Carmel Plaza, Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Curated by Gail Enns, the show will feature contemporary paintings, photography and sculpture by American artists: Sharron Antholt, Annie Buckley, Kim Campbell, Kristin Casaletto, Peter Charles, Jamie Dagdigian, Kayhan Ghodsi, Susan Hyde Green, Peter Hiers, Anne Marchand, Logan Norton, Jane Olin, Robin V. Robinson, Tony Sheeder, Lisa Solomon, the Temple Sisters, Robin Ward and Martin Webb.

Ms. Enns, the owner and director of Green Chalk Contemporary, observes “This is necessarily a time of great change across the country, and with any change comes uncertainty, anxiety, hope and fear. Awakening helps make sense of this uncertainty by carefully observing and reflecting on how we arrived at this point in time and where we go from here.”

Themes addressed by artists in the exhibition include public, private and personal reactions to the 2016 elections, the continuing effects of media saturation, the shifting divisions of identity politics, the status of gender, and the opportunities for positive change that may emerge during a time of transition.

Awakening will be exhibited to the public on the Third Floor of Carmel Plaza, at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Junipero Avenue, in Carmel-by-the-Sea, from February 10 to February 26, 2017. The opening reception is scheduled on Friday, February 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Through the perspectives of 3 artists--Johanna Goodman, Natsuko Hattori and Lori Larusso--Contemplation Consumed explores the idea of happiness in our daily lives. Hattori's hand sewn sculptures of bursts of color symbolize transformation and intimacy of human spirit while Johanna Goodman's two dimensional paintings create a balanced atmosphere of order and form. These are tied together by Lori Larusso's flat perspective painting commentary on daily life through the consumption of food. Each work in the exhibition has a unique meditative quality created through the use of color and texture.

Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth and human beings have used it to fashion everything from toys to food storage to shelter. The ubiquitous soda can is a symbol of both consumer waste and efforts at recycling and sustainability. Artists have also made use of aluminum in new processes for digital printing, painting, or engraving images. Aluminosity features these new technologies among the many artistic meditations on this silvery element.

Called to return again and again to the image of an abandoned silo, Brugoli creates an impactful visual symbol imbued with a longing for the past, the comport of the present, and the endless adventure of imagination.

These large-scale, evocative, and innovative photographs on display by Baltimore artist Ajay Malghan incorporate time as a formative element. The Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District is a nationally recognized initiative that is unique in its focus on artists and their work, with a handful of organizations serving to support nearly 150 professional artists who maintain studios in the Arts District. Creative Corridor at the Prince George’s Community College Marlborough Gallery showcases the important role the Gateway Arts District plays as a cultural hub for the region, as well as the diversity of the work created in it.

ELIGIBILITY
Creative Corridor is open to artists who live, work, or study, or make art in the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District. Artists must be at least 18 years of age. Artworks should be no more than 60 inches in any dimension, and must have been completed within the past two years. We cannot support time-based or interactive works in this exhibition.

EXHIBITION TIMELINE
• December 3 – Deadline to apply
• December 10 - Artists notified
• January 7, 9, 10, 11 - Artists drop off work at Brentwood Arts Exchange
• January 19, 2017 - Exhibition Opens to the public
• February 9 - Opening reception, 7-9 pm.
• February 23 – Exhibition closes at 12 noon.
• March 1-5 – Artists pick up artwork at the Brentwood Arts Exchange.

APPLICATION
Artists may submit up to three artworks for consideration
By Email to gatewayartshow@gmail.com. Email applications must be received by midnight on Saturday, December 3.
On a CD delivered to the Brentwood Arts Exchange attn: Creative Corridor. Applications on CD must be received by 4 pm on Saturday, December 3. Each application should include:
• Images of up to 3 artworks to be considered.
• Artists submitting images of three-dimensional artwork may include up to two images of each artwork as details or alternate views of the artworks included in the application.
• A list of works/images that includes titles, media, size, and dates created.
• Image files should be submitted in jpeg format and no larger than 2MB.
• (Optional) An artist’s statement relevant to the artwork submitted.
• (Optional) An SASE for the return of CDs. CDs will not be returned unless an SASE with adequate postage is provided.
• Artists submitting works on CD are strongly encouraged to write their name and email address on the CD.

SHIPPING & INSTALLATION
Artists are solely responsible for transporting their artwork to and from the drop-off/pick up location. The artwork delivered must match the images submitted for consideration and must be delivered in good condition and properly presented. Please direct specific questions about presentation to gateawayartshow @ gmail.com. All artwork will be installed by Prince George’s Community College staff.

SALES & INSURANCE
Artworks will be insured by Prince George’s Community College while on display in the gallery only. Sales are processed by Prince George’s Community college at no commission.
