Paint Made Flesh

June 20-September 13, 2009

Through about 40 paintings created since the 1950s, Paint Made Flesh reveals a wide range of artistic responses to both the sensual properties and metaphorical significance of human flesh—and the ways in which artists continue to use traditional methods and the human figure to explore the human experience. Works in the exhibition are by 32 internationally renowned modern artists, including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Willem de Kooning, Alice Neel, Philip Guston, Julian Schnabel, and Lucian Freud. Paint Made Flesh is organized by the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville, Tennessee.

The Phillips Collection is located at 1600 21st Street, NW, Washington, D.C., near the corner of 21st and Q Streets, NW, Washington, DC
