Opening Reception: Friday, November 20, 6 – 9 pm
@ Arlington Arts Center The roster for the AAC’s national juried show of photo and video work, IMAGE/PROJECT, was chosen by Taryn Simon, a Guggenheim fellow represented by Gagosian gallery in New York. From our pool of entries, Simon selected 17 different projects by 19 artists hailing from New York, LA, Chicago, and all points inbetween. The exhibition itself features three black box spaces for video projections and four galleries of photographs.
The show reflects the ways in which contemporary artists tend to approach photography and video. Many of the artists presented here use photography as either a means for documenting or presenting cross-disciplinary projects, or as a tool for inquiry into the way we perceive and live in the world.
Below is a list of the finalists: Morgan Ashcom (Free Union, VA) Leslie Awender (Topanga, CA) Jason Burch (Jersey City, NJ) Judith Connell (Falls Church, VA) Elizabeth Crisman (Baltimore, MD) David Hartwell and Josef Jacques (San Francisco, CA) Jason Havernaas (Brooklyn, NY) Linda Hesh (Alexandria, VA) Jaime Kennedy and Kelly Urquhart (Kent, OH) Alma Leiva (Miami, FL) Karen Ludlam (Brooklyn, NY) Jeroen Nelemans (Chicago, IL) Minou Norouzi (Los Angeles, CA) Nicholas O’Brien (Chicago, IL) Adam Pape (Chicago, IL) Laurie Rubin (Chicago, IL) Michael Wallace (Cleveland, OH)
In the Wyatt Gallery: New work by resident artists Evan Reed and Jill Romanoke. Reed builds large wooden sculptures that often resemble architectural models for larger buildings—some historical, some fantastic. For this show, Reed will offer large scale drawings and studies related to this work. Romanoke is known for double-sided drawings and prints executed on translucent paper that use elements from maps, texts, and biological systems.
